An expired passport or ID can cause serious obstacles. Therefore, be aware of the expiration date of your passport, ID, or residence permit. At Staffice, we are happy to help you and notify you one month before your passport, ID, or residence permit expires that you need to apply for a new one.
Below is some more information about identification documents for you.
What is allowed:
If you are employed, you may use an expired Dutch or EU passport, but you must renew it in time, as you are required to identify yourself with a valid document in the Netherlands. If you are stopped by the police in the Netherlands without a valid ID, you may receive a fine.
What is not allowed:
You cannot work in the Netherlands with an expired Dutch ID/passport or European passport. If you are looking for a new job, you need to have a valid ID.
Residence permit:
You may only work with a valid residence permit. If it has expired, you are not allowed to work. Therefore, make sure to renew your residence permit in time.
Renewing your identification document or residence permit:
Do you have Dutch nationality?
Apply for a new ID document at the municipality where you are registered.
Do you have a non-Dutch nationality?
Apply for a new ID document at the embassy of your nationality.
Do you have an expiring residence permit?
Apply for a new residence permit at the IND.
Note: You must always have a valid ID with you. If you are stopped by the police in the Netherlands without a valid ID, you may receive a fine.
