Did you know that tax returns are mandatory for anyone living in the Netherlands and earning an income? But don’t worry, we’ll explain it to you briefly. And the best part is, when you file your tax return, you might be eligible for a refund from the Tax Office! Whether you’ve recently moved to the Netherlands, overpaid taxes, or have certain deductible expenses, you could be in for a treat!
On the flip side, it can be a bit nerve-wracking, because you never know for sure if you might owe more. But in most cases, after filling out your return, you’ll know exactly what you need to pay or what you’ll get back. Our advice is to file before May 1st, 2023, to avoid any penalties.
What do you need to file your tax return? The right information and documents, such as your DigiD, bank account number, payslips, annual statement, or the WOZ value of your property, and more. Fortunately, we at STAFFICE have already reported all your earnings from last year to the Tax Office, so that’s great news! But be sure to double-check that all the information you fill out is correct, as we all make mistakes, right?
Filing your tax return is actually pretty simple and can be done in just four steps:
- Log in to “My Tax Office” with your DigiD via belastingdienst.nl. Please note that the Tax Office now only accepts login via the DigiD app or SMS verification. Don’t have one yet? Check out the STAFFICE knowledge base or visit digid.nl/aanvragen.
- Click on “Income Tax” and then on “Tax Year 2022”.
- Verify your information and add or correct any missing or incorrect details.
- Once you’ve filled out your return completely, sign it with your DigiD and click the “Submit” button.
And voilà, you’re done with your tax return! That was fast, wasn’t it?
