As an Inside Sales and Pricing Specialist, you play a key role in managing transportation requests and ensuring smooth transitions from quotes to operations. You’ll handle air and sea freight services while maintaining a sharp focus on improving conversion rates and exceeding customer expectations.
A Typical Day in the Role
Your day starts by reviewing customer inquiries, prioritizing urgent requests, and gathering competitive rates from carriers and suppliers. You craft tailored transport solutions for general cargo and special commodities, ensuring seamless handovers to the operations team.
Throughout the day, you follow up with clients and suppliers, fostering strong relationships and ensuring satisfaction. You stay ahead by researching market trends, updating databases, and refining pricing strategies. By the end of the day, you’ve delivered exceptional service and planned for continued success.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing and managing transport quotes: Accurately calculate costs based on client requirements, ensuring clarity and precision in all proposals.
- Handling rate requests for clients and agents: Promptly respond to rate inquiries, providing competitive and viable pricing for air, sea, or road freight.
- Collaborating with suppliers: Maintain strong relationships with transport companies, airlines, and other service providers to negotiate the best rates and services.
- Overseeing order preparation: Ensure converted orders are correctly documented and smoothly handed over to the operations team for flawless execution.
- Following up with clients: Maintain proactive communication with customers to confirm their satisfaction, address concerns, and strengthen long-term partnerships.
- Updating databases: Regularly input and manage data to keep pricing information accurate and easily accessible for future use.
- Conducting market research: Stay informed about industry trends, competitor strategies, and shifts in market demands to ensure your pricing remains competitive and relevant.
- Refining pricing strategies: Work with your manager to analyze trends and brainstorm improvements to optimize profitability while maintaining client satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- MBO+/HBO level of education with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of air and sea freight operations (export/import).
- Familiarity with customs formalities, Incoterms, and freight forwarding systems.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables.
- Excellent communication skills in German is a plus.
- A customer-first mindset with a knack for problem-solving and strategic thinking.
- Ability to handle pressure and work independently to make data-driven decisions.
Proficiency in the English language is required for this position.
